Wherever there is a disaster, either natural or man-made, PMSSS makes its presence felt in that area by its swift rescue operations.

Drought and flood have almost become an annual phenomenon in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. Experts in the field are of the conviction that drought can no more be considered a natural disaster. Rather it is man made. If only the requisite awareness were to be generated among the people as to the need to save rain water, droughts can be mitigated. Agricultural activities can be sustained throughout the year with the available rainfall in Tamil Nadu.

It is with this conviction that PMSSS has decided to launch watershed programmes in the coming year in some of the villages in the districts of Cuddalore and Villupuram. Since there has been no rain for three consecutive years, there has been drought in Tamil Nadu. Under our initiative, lakes are made deeper and canals desilted to store more water in the catchments areas. This initiative can also control floods to a considerable extent.

Fire accidents are not uncommon in the districts of Villupuram and Cuddalore, especially in the months of April, May and June. In cases of major fire accidents, Caritas India (the National Social Service Organization of the Catholic Church), comes to the rescue of the affected if given an SOS.

In minor and individual fire accidents, PMSSS extends a helping hand to the affected to construct shelters.
